Play-Doh + Disney princesses (with ballgowns) = a big hit with my girls.
By Marshall Carter

My daughter hadn't been feeling well at all when this Play-Doh Princess Castle came in. Among the things she really loves so far, Play-Doh and Disney Princesses are at the top of the list, so the two of them together (and she does have some other Disney Princess Play-Doh toys) is almost always a hit with her. This one definitely served as a big-time pick-me-up for her (she had been quite miserable), and while it's not one of the more elaborate sets out there, it's a nice set with a tried-and-true play style (Princess dress-up is always a hit).

There is some assembly required, as you have to put the plastic castle parts down into the base. Nothing major or frustrating, but it's not assembled and a parent might be needed to get everything locked in place. It comes with four little canisters of Play-Doh (one of which was a glittery blue that my daughter really, really loved; these are small tubs, so you might want to get a few of the bigger cans to go with it, just in case), the dress molds, the usual Play-Doh knife and "rolling pin" that these sets seem to come with as well as a tool that basically looks like a pizza cutter but makes round 'bubble' patterns. The Ariel and Cinderella dolls are also there (as they need to be) and there are little platforms that sit on the base that they can be set on (these work like gears, if you have both dolls in place and turn one, the "teeth" will turn the other, so both dolls will spin).

From a playtime perspective, the big draw here are the dresses. Each doll is wearing a simple gown, but put them and a generous amount of Play-Doh into the mold, and they're wearing their full ball-type gowns in a few seconds flat. There are little molds for embellishments and decorations all over the set, so there are countless ways your little ones could decorate their Play-Doh dresses. The middle tower also has the familiar Play-Doh extrusion going on, this time with the Rapunzel castle in the center. Pull the top of the castle off, then add some yellow Play-Doh in (included). When you put the castle top back on and push, Rapunzel lets down her hair. It's not the best part of this set, but the youngest of my twins seemed to like it a lot.

As far as Play-Doh sets go, the real measure of value is how much they're actually played with. My girls love Play-Doh, and if a set doesn't hold their interest, they'll dump it in a second and just play with the "Doh" on its own. When I woke up the morning after giving it to my oldest (almost 5), I found her playing it the next morning, along with her younger twin sisters. They sat there and played with it for over and hour, and continues to play with the dolls even after that. This isn't the flashiest, most expensive Play-Doh set that there is, but it is one of the few that I could tell they were really, really having fun with, fun that went beyond just playing with the Play-Doh to begin with.

You May Need More Play-Doh with this
By Jacqueline

If you don't have some containers of Play-Doh in stock, you may need to get more new Play-Doh because these containers are the very small ones (2" high by 1 1/2" wide on the bottom). If there's more than one child to play with this, there will be fights over the containers. The amount of Play-Doh included may just fill the molds once, so there will be tears if you don't have more behind your back.

As always, the back of the package says NOTICE: Contains wheat, in several languages, fairly large print, but dominated by the beautiful images of the toy and what can be made with these Play-Doh molds.

This is a completely typical Play-Doh and Crayola product based on a Disney enchantment. A lot of good, hard science and testing goes into these designs, and they are an absolute guaranteed hit with the right kid at the right time. They will ignite the imagination and deliver eye-hand-coordination lessons painlessly.

If your children are fired up by the Princess universe, this is a good investment. If they just like squishing Play-Doh and smearing it on each other, the stuff will be all over the place in nothing flat so it is a good thing the containers are small.

I've uploaded an image of how the package unpacks. It is secured with tiny bits of tape in hidden spots, so if your child does not use scissors yet, or is easily frustrated, you may need to do the opening. Inside, the various plastic molds (flimsy toys that won't last long if there's an older boy around to stomp on them) come in plastic bags you won't want near a younger child because they might be dangerous. The plastic bags are secured with bits of tape. If your children love a rip-fest, let them shred this box open, then you should abscond with the trash to keep dangerous plastic bag material from the younger ones.

For some children, you may want to unpack the box and set the toys up as shown in the product image on this page, to avoid the rip-fest and various hazards in the packaging.

All in all, this really works well for keeping the kids busy. The packaging could use more thought.

Great creative fun
By Bookenato

This is a great creative fun toy at a reasonable price.

PROS:
+ Aerial and Cinderella figures
+ Play Doh, of course
+ "Growing" Rapunzel hair
+ Make dresses with Play Doh and patterns

CONS:
- Please don't put that Play-Doh in your hair. :)

Seriously, this is a a lot of fun and promotes creative play time. Much better than staring at phones and iPods all day.

Cute Play-Doh set
By B. McCarthy

This is a very sweet Play-Doh set. My seven year old daughter is really enjoying making the princess dresses. It's easy to make the dresses and then decorate them. My daughters love the princesses so this is a great toy for them. The princesses are popular for a lot of kids.

Once the dresses are on, they are then playing with the characters. Even without the dresses, they can use the characters. It comes with just a few Play-D tubs, including some with glitter, which is fun. Of course you can then use other Play-Doh with it. The castle is cute. Everything came already put together. Everything feels well made and durable. This is a great set to add to your Play-Doh or just general character collection. I would recommend it.

Fun! Fun! Fun!
By DRob

Both of my grandchildren-- 1-year-old girl and 4.5-year-old boy loved this! It was easy to assemble and as soon as they saw it was Play-Doh, they were eager to play with it. My granddaughter had fun turning the dials, patting the Play-Doy and playing with the dolls. She was also fascinated by the molds and had fun putting Play-Doy on various parts of the castle. She liked watching me use the roller wheel, and tried to use it herself. Um, she also enjoyed sticking the Play-Doh in her mouth, but she's one year old so everything goes in her mouth. My grandson packed the Play-Doh around the dolls and used the molds. He played with it for a long time and kept going back to it to play some more! The Play-Doh was very fresh and a little hard to get out of the cans, but that was no big deal. All in all, this made for a fun grandparent/grandchild activity, and their mother reported that they played with it the next morning and had a lot of fun.
